Theme 1: Beauty Image

The Body/Beauty Image is an omnipresent social topic which I believe is the more appropriate to the independent/art magazine rather than a magazine featuring purely fashion oriented editorials. This would represent a cultural revolt against side effects of fashion.

A common charge against the fashion image is that it normalizes artifice, perfection and glamour, thereby imposing unrealistic aesthetic standards upon women and encouraging acts of imitation.

The world is full of relentless imagery of pseudo glamour masquerading as beauty. In reality this has nothing to do with “beauty” it is about conformity, brand and formula.

I chose to focus on the ‘Ideal Beauty Image’ and question it through the use of image and its manipulation. These are some of the ideas on the effects/methods I will use to get the wanted effect.

On the one side a retouched ‘flawless’ image of the model and on the other the faded ‘ghost’ effect of the model looking at that ‘perfect’ picture.
